This book is a wonderful combination of football and social history as it tells the story of nine Nottinghamshire coal miners, a clerk and a bricklayer who sent shocks across the British Empire when Worksop Town of the Midland League were drawn in 1923 FA cup to play against Tottenham Hotspur, England’s Premier Team of the day. This book is one of drama and scandal and relates how this group of miners became the darlings of the nation when they took on Spurs.

A dramatic detailed record and living history which will not only be enjoyed by football fans but also by social historians. It is an absorbing historical record that, through the photographs and documents that are included, records the social history surrounding the game a hundred years ago. It may be the story of one football team and the scandal that saw the demise of a club, the decades it took for Worksop Football Club to recover. An absorbing social history so relevant in the centenary year of the first Wembley Cup Final.
